Basil Pesto Whole Wheat Pizza | Pesto Pizza

This one is exclusively for Basil Pesto and Pizza lover! ❤ I am kind of in love with…or obsessed with Basil Pesto sauce! To me, pesto is universal sauce which can be spread over any toast or sandwich. I like to spread pesto over my bread toast and top with boiled egg slices..tastes yumm! or add a spoonful of pesto in scrambled eggs, or pesto pasta, or pesto sandwich, or pesto noodles, or spread grated boiled egg with pesto sauce on a toasted bread and eat it. These all are hassle-free recipes and can be made in a jiffy for your morning breakfasts.  I am sure there are plenty of recipes with Basil Pesto which are a must try for a Pesto lover, if you have those recipes and do share with me.

It’s been months since bought Pizza from the store and baking Pizza at home means, I will hardly use mushroom, pineapple, chicken or any other meat as a topping to my Pizza. And whenever I bake Pizza at home, I overload it with my toppings. 😀 I have been craving for a delicious cheesy pizza with obviously lots of topping yet wanted to try something completely different from the regular pizza I bake at home. I opened the fridge door, and nearly about  5-6mins I was just standing and looking for something which can do some magic to my Pizza and that’s when my eyes stopped at Pesto Jar. And the result is, J-U-S-T Delicious!

This recipe is inspired by my love for Basil Pesto and this pizza tastes incredible. 😀 A very tasty pizza which of course, I am looking forward to making again for lunch or dinner. If you want a bold flavor pesto, then increase the quantity of pesto you are using. Add topping of your choice and feel free to as many topping you want.
You can always make Basil Pesto at home if you have all the required ingredients and a little extra time. But just in case, if you do not have homemade Basil Pesto then get a really good one from the store to bake this delicious Basil Pesto Pizza.

I have used whole wheat flour however, you can use half of the whole wheat flour and half of the all-purpose flour to bake your pizza. I would suggest not to skip the garlic salt because it enhances the flavor of the pizza crust and gives it a nice aromatic smell too. If you do not have garlic salt, then add a fat pinch of garlic powder and just mince 2 garlic cloves and add while kneading the dough. Not only it will enhance the flavor, it will also cut down on the “yeasty” taste of your Pizza dough.

Recipe:
Step 1- In a large mixing bowl take warm water, pizza crust yeast, sugar, garlic salt, and oil, dissolve and let it sit for 2mins. Add the flour to the bowl and using a spatula or spoon mix everything. Knead the dough for 4-5mins and cover the bowl. Leave the dough for 30-40mins. The dough will rise

Step 2- Preheat oven to 475ºF. Dust a rolling board and roll out the dough into a thin pizza crust. Grease and dust with flour a pizza baking tray and place the pizza base

Step 3- Using a fork, prick the pizza base. Spread evenly the pesto sauce all over the base using a spatula. You want a bold pesto flavored pizza then use more pesto sauce

Step 4- Spread the sliced cheese or grated mozzarella cheese over the pizza base and add your favorite toppings

Step 5- Grate some hot pepper jack cheese all over the toppings and sprinkle pizza seasoning and chili flakes (optional). Place the pizza tray in the heated oven and bake for 13-15mins or until sides are brown and crusty
For the perfectly crusty layer from the center, heat a large skillet pan or griddle over the gas stove and place heat the pizza over medium-low flame for 3-4mins. You will get the perfect crusty pizza

Yes, you can use instant yeast, knead the dough well and leave the dough to rise for 1 and 1/2 hr or more
